Covid-19: Nigerian woman gives birth to baby boy on evacuation flight from Dubai

Kafayat Amusan,Nigerian woman, who is part of the Nigerians being evacuated from Dubai, UAE over the coronavirus, delivered a baby born few minutes after departure.

The young woman who is currently on admission at a hospital in Dubai,put to bed 30 minutes after departure.

According to a statement by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), the aircraft, operated by Emirates Airline, had to be changed on return to the airport.

“The Nigerian Ambassador in Dubai, Ambassador Rimi and staff of the embassy are in touch with mother and child who are in good condition,” NIDCOM said.

“Emirates Airline had to change to another aircraft which is now en route to Lagos with 265 returnees on board.

“The Chairman/CEO Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa congratulated Mrs Amusan for another addition in her family and prayed she return safely to the country.

“Dabiri-Erewa said she will return to Nigeria after obtaining a birth certificate and other necessary travel documents for her baby boy.”

The plane, which was scheduled to arrive at 3pm is now expected to land at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at 7pm.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, had said 265 Nigerians would arrive in Lagos from Dubai on Wednesday as part of efforts to bring citizens willing to come back to the country amid the coronavirus outbreak.
