Nigerian soldiers in gun battle with Boko Haram at Borno military base

Some Boko Haram insurgents were reportedly engaged in a gunfight by gallant men of the Nigerian Army stationed in Mainok, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno state.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the insurgents and Nigerian soldiers engaged in a gunfight for hours in the Borno community.

According to residents, the insurgents stormed the village around 7pm, started shooting sporadically and made their way to the military base where shooting has been ongoing for hours as the insurgents fight with troops.

It was further learnt that the troops engaging the insurgents are from the army’s 29 battalion task force in Mainok.

Sources said villagers are still scampering for safety.

As at the time of filling this report, it can not be ascertained if the gunfight is ongoing.

In a related story, WITHIN NIGERIA reported that a fighter jet belonging to the Nigeria Air Force fired a bomb on Sakotoku village in Damboa local government area of Borno state which reportedly led to killing of no fewer than 17 people.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that people who were killed by the bomb included women and children who were reportedly playing under mango trees.
