EFCC nabs Benue vigilante commandant for alleged N449.5m fraud

Commandant of Benue State Vigilante Group identified as George Mbessey has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Makurdi Zonal Office over allegation of conspiracy, abuse of office and diversion of public funds to the tune of N449.5million.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the commandant was arrested by operatives of the EFCC on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 in Makurdi.

This is coming days after a petition urging the Commission to investigate a case of alleged financial recklessness against the suspect.

According to the petitioners, the BSVG used to receive its official funding of N20million monthly directly from the Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs through its official account.

In a related story, WITHIN NIGERIA reported that the Rivers State Government has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of engaging on media trials.

Reacting to a report alleging that the government attention of the Rivers State Government has refused to release top officials for interrogation in connection to the withdrawal of N118 billion in cash between 2015 and 2018.
