Obaseki’s defection to PDP insignificant, says APC

The defection of embattled Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki to People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been described as insignificant by the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).

While speaking with newsmen via telephone, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu said that Obaseki’s move to the PDP was never a surprise.

“It has not come to us as a surprise. We knew he had defected long ago because he resigned his membership of the party which we have accepted.

Issa-Onilu stressed that “So you can’t defect twice. So if he is defecting again, we don’t know whether what he has just done now is news any longer”.

Obaseki resigned from the APC after it’s screening committee disqualified him from the June 22 governorship primary.

The NWC last Saturday affirmed his disqualification by the screening and appeal committees.

In a related story, WITHIN NIGERIA reported that the Edo State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Tony Azegbemi has said that the party membership card of Governor Godwin Obaseki was ready.

This is against Obaseki’s post on his twitter handle yesterday that, “I have not moved to a new platform yet to seek re-election.”
