Commissioner’s death: Akeredolu directs aide to oversee health ministry

Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has directed Dr Jibayo Adeyeye, his Special Adviser on Health, to oversee the activities of the Ministry of Health following the death of Dr Wahab Adegbenro, former Commissioner for Health.

WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that Adegbenro died of COVID-19 infection at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo on Thursday 2nd July 2020.

Late Ondo Health Commissioner Dr Wahab Adegbenro was buried in Ilara- Mokin according to Muslim rites on Friday.

His death came a day after Governor Rotimi Akeredolu announced that he has tested positive for COVID- 19.

Mr Ojo Oyewamide, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, disclosed the latest development in a statement made available to newsmen in Akure on Saturday.

Dr Jibayo Adeyeye, Governor Akeredolu’s Special Adviser on Health, will now oversee the activities of the Ministry of Health.

The statement by Oyewamide explained that Adeyeye, a two-term lawmaker at the Lagos State House of Assembly, was a consummate medical practitioner.

According to him, the Special Assistant is a product of the prestigious College of Medicine, University of Lagos.

“His new roles are with immediate effect,” the Senior Special Assistant said.
