Ondo assembly serves Deputy Governor impeachment notice, 9 lawmakers disassociate themselves

Ondo Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi detained at the state house gate by the state commissioner of police

Atleast 14 lawmakers in the Ondo State House of Assembly have reportedly served impeachment notice on the Deputy Governor of the state, Agboola Ajayi.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the Deputy Governor, Ajayi was accused of gross misconduct.

Recall that the Deputy Governor, Agboola resigned from the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) some days ago and defected to the opposition party, People’s Democratic Party and insisted that he would remain in office as the Deputy Governor of the state.

WITHIN NIGERIA gathered 14 lawmakers supported the impeachment of Ajayi while 9 lawmakers were not in support of the impeachment move against the Deputy Governor of the state.

It was learnt that there were heavy security presence at the Ondo State House as the lawmakers were holding plenary.

Recall that an advertorial was placed on June 6th, calling on assmbly members to resume sitting after they went on recess due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The Deputy Governor, Agboola in his efforts to stall any impeachment move, rushed to an Abuja High Court where he filed seeking to stop the impeachment proceeding and enforced his fundamental right of association.

Other defendants in the suit were the Inspector General of Police, State Commissioner Of Police, Department of State Services (DSS) and the Speaker of the Assembly, Mr David Oleyeloogun.
