“You may not see tomorrow”, Police allegedly tell Osun journalist, assault him with guns and charms

You may not see tomorrow, Osun journalist narrates police officer threatens to plant gun inside his car

Journalist and Publisher of Insight News, Jare Tiamiyu has narrated and revealed how he was assaulted with guns and charms by some police officers while on duty in Osogbo, the capital of Osun state.

The publisher who also doubles as the Chairman of Osun State Online Media Practitioners, Jare Tiamiyu narrated the sad and tragic incident in a statement written and signed by him which was made available to WITHIN NIGERIA.

According to the publisher, he was on his way to office from Okinni axis moving towards Osogbo before he was rudely stopped by a police officer as at 10:49 am.

Tiamiyu said despite the fact that none of the police officers was on uniform which made it difficult for him to identify them yet he stopped his vehicle and obeyed their instructions.

He asked me to open my boot but the police officer had already opened the door, pulled me out of the car before I could step out of the car to open the boot. He ransacked my vehicle from the driver side to the back seat and disorganised the vehicle, he explained.

The chairman of OMPAN further disclosed that the police officer hijacked the phone from his trainee who was with him and took his laptop bag. Another officer came down to request for my ID card after I introduced myself to the police officers.

In the course of explaining the true situation of things, the other police officer told me that I was too arrogant for talking to him which led to argument between us and a team of about fifteen officers descended on me and one of the police officer slapped me, the visibly sad journalist added.

Recounting the sad ordeal and how he was crudely assaulted by the police officers, Tiamiyu said he was dragged like a common criminal into a (mini-bus) Korope with registration number SGB-385 YS where he met eight other people attested for only-God-knows offence.

The publisher of Insight added that his phone and vehicle were seized and was in a state of incommunicado for about two hours.

Tiamiyu stressed that several demeaning and defamatory statements were made by one of the police officers.

According to Tiamiyu, the police officers made the following statements such as it shall not be well with you and your entire family. I will deal with you today, go and ask your senior journalists. I have dealt with with them. I am from Ogun state, I will tell you I am fortified with every power, you may not last beyond tomorrow.

The Osun-born journalist stressed that another officer identified as Taye joined them at the station and they continued to threaten him.

Tiamiyu said he was threatened by one of the officers that he has the power to put pistol in my boot and I will continue to face the case.
