Man drowns in pond while bathing in Kano

Tragedy struck at Kura Local Government Area of Kano State, when a man, 22, identified as Yusuf Abdullahi, drowned while bathing in a pond at Danhassan.

Malam Saidu Mohammed, the Public Relations Officer, Kano State Fire Service, made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Kano on Sunday.

According to him, the incident happened this afternoon.

“We received a distress call on Sunday afternoon from one Malam Saidu Ibrahim, at about 03:31p.m., that Abdullahi’s body was found floating in a pond.

“On receiving the information, we quickly sent our rescue team to the scene at about 03:42 p.m.

“He was brought out and handed over to the village head of Garin Kaya, Alhaji Aminu,” he said.

He said that the cause of the death was still under investigation.

Meanwhile, a young Hausa man simply identified as Mohammed, residing in Port Harcourt, has drowned in a burrow pit behind Timber Market, Rumuosi, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Elder brother of the deceased whose name is Hassan Mohammed has confirmed the incident, saying he got the sad news around 2:30 pm on Wednesday.

Mohammed said when he arrived at the scene of incident, he discovered that there was no way his younger brother could have been rescued because of the risky terrain.
