Abuja takes the lead as Nigeria records 453 new cases of COVID-19

As Nigeria continues its fight against Coronavirus, 453 new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded with a total of 46,140 confirmed cases.

This was disclosed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on its official Twitter handle yesternight.

According to the figures released by the NCDC, the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja is ahead of Lagos, the epicentre of the virus in the number of new cases recorded with a close margin of 4 cases.

Breakdown of the new cases of COVID-19 in each state:

FCT – 75, Lagos-71, Benue-53, Delta-39, Borno-30, Enugu-25, Plateau-24, Osun-20, Abia-19  Oyo-17, Kaduna-16, Kano-13, Ebonyi-13, Ogun-9, Kwara-7, Ondo-6, Gombe-3, Ekiti-2, Akwa Ibom-1 and Rivers-1.

According to the data released by NCDC, 33044 patients have recovered while 942 patients have lost their lives.

In a related story, WITHIN NIGERIA reported that Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi said 66,431 COVID-19 sample tests had been carried out since the inception of the pandemic.

Abayomi made the disclosure on his Twitter account while giving an update on the COVID-19 for Aug.5.

He noted that 137 new COVID-19 infections were confirmed in the state out of a total of 930 COVID-19 tests conducted on the reported date.
