Four abducted Chinese regain freedom after 26 days in Cross River

Four Chinese workers who were kidnapped in Cross River, have regained their freedom.

They were freed twenty-six days after their kidnap. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Irene Ugbo, confirmed their rescue in a statement.

She simply said: “The Police and other security agencies in collaboration with the State Government have secured the release of the Chinese nationals in Akpabiyo”

The Public Relations Officer however, did not give further information amidst speculations a huge ransom was paid to secure release of the four Chinese.

When the Chinese nationals were abducted 26 days ago, a policeman attached to the construction firm, Danatrite Construction Company, where they worked in Oban, Akamkpa local government area, was killed.

Sources gave the names of the foreign national kidnapped as Kan Jinxi, Hujinchang, Jiang Jijun and Cheng Qing.

Incidents of kidnap have become a source of worry to the new Police Commissioner, CP Abdulkadir Jimoh.
