Coronavirus death toll surpasses 1 million globally

Barely 9 months after deadly virus code-named COVID-19 was first detected in Wuhan, China, the death toll of the global disease has surpassed 1 million.

The World Health Organisation disclosed that the first death linked to Coronavirus in China was reported on January 11.

America has accounted for over 20 percent of the worldwide COVID-19 fatalities with over 205,000 deaths.

Brazil has the second-most fatalities, with more than 142,000 deaths while India has the third-most deaths globally, reporting over 95,000, as of Monday night.

According to data compiled by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, over 33.2 million people across the globe have been diagnosed with COVID-19, the disease caused by the new respiratory virus.
