Lagos Govt accuses #EndSARS protesters of damaging fire truck

Some #EndSARS protesters have been accused of damaging a fire service truck by the Lagos state government.

According to the government via a Twitter post on Wednesday, the incident occurred in Alausa, Ikeja on Tuesday.

The acting head of the agency identified as Margret Adeseye reportedly said there was an unprovoked attack on the truck used daily for emergency situations.

According to her, the fire engine truck was on its way from where it had been deployed to quell a fire incident “before it was attacked by some of the protesters”.

“The distress call to Olowoira was received at about 12.08hrs and the Alausa fire truck was en-route the scene from Opebi, where it had just concluded an operation before it was attacked and damaged by some protesters,” Adeseye said.

Meanwhile, some social media users have disputed the claim by the state government, saying the vehicle was not damaged by protesters.

A Twitter user identified as Era Iyayi asked the state government to provide evidence so that the protesters can be fished out and handed over to security operatives.

“We appreciate the service of firefighters & NO #EndSWAT protester will do this without witness,” Iyayi said.

“Please provide evidence that #EndSARS protesters & not your thugs did this & we will fish them out and hand to law enforcement. Deal?”
