At least 18 dead as cult war escalates in Edo State

The ongoing cult war in Edo State, has led to the death of at least 18 people after a recent escalation.

An Assistant Commissioner of Police and the two other policemen were shot on Friday in the Sokponba axis of Benin, after being caught in the crossfire.

According to eyewitnesses, the cultists are freely using AK-47 rifles, machetes, battle axes and other dangerous weapon.

Recall that during the End SARS protest in the State, protesters attacked the Maximum Correctional Centre (White House) and the Medium Correctional Centre to free about 1,993 inmates, mostly cultists.

In other news, two persons have been brutally killed following a renewed cult clash between two rival groups at the Federal Polytechnic Nekede in Umudibia Autonomous Community, Owerri West Council Area of Imo State.

According to reports, gunmen suspected to be cult members shot an unidentified man dead at the Federal Polytechnic Nekede junction on Wednesday, November 11, at 9 am, after they laid an ambush.

It was further gathered that another unidentified person was gunned down at the School’s Back Gate on Tuesday night, November 10, at 8 pm. Read more here.
