Kidnapped Taraba lawmaker regains freedom

A member of the Taraba House of Assembly, Bashir Mohammed who was kidnapped earlier in the week has been released.

Recall that Bashir Mohammed who represents Nguroje constituency at the assembly was abducted in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba state on Wednesday.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the lawmaker was kidnapped from his residence, which is some metres away from an office of the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to report, the gunmen shot sporadically into the air to scarce people for more than 40 minutes before whisking the lawmaker away.

The police public relations officer in the state, David Misal while speaking on the development confirmed that Mohammed was released on Friday evening.

The PPRO did not mention if any ransom was paid to the suspected kidnappers.

In 2017, Hosea Ibi, a lawmaker representing Takum 1 constituency in the state assembly was kidnapped by three unidentified gunmen.

The lawmaker, Ibi was later found dead with his remains dumped beside the road.
