COVID-19: Nigeria registers 1,244 new infections

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has reported 1244 new COVID-19 infections in the country.

The health agency disclosed this via its verified Twitter account on Monday night.

NCDC reported that the country now has a total of 1,361 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

It added that the new infections were recorded from 17 States and the Federal Capital Territory, in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the Federal government has claimed that travels, reopening of schools, businesses and religious centres, contributed to the rise in COVID-19 cases in Nigeria.

Chairman of the PTF on Covid-19 and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, speaking during Monday’s media briefing in Abuja, named factors that led to the spike in numbers.

“It is, however, very instructive to stress that factors that have contributed to rise in numbers from late November 2020 included increased local and international travels, business and religious activities, reopening of schools without strict compliance with COVID-19 safety measures,” Mustapha said.
