Rivers varsity reportedly shields staff accused of abducting, raping 16-year-old girl

Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Rumulomeni, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State has been accused of protecting one of its employee, Mgbechi Wekwea, a 60-year-old staff in the security department; who allegedly abducted and defiled a 16-year-old girl in the state.

WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that a human rights group, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign (CBRPAC) called on the varsity to release the accused Mgbechi Wekwe to the police for questioning.

Wekwe, a security official of the university, allegedly abducted and defiled the girl to punish his estranged wife, Kindness Edwin.

The school is allegedly frustrating efforts of the victim and her mum to get justice.

The university has denied the cover-up allegation.

The group called on Governor Nyesom Wike, the State Ministries of Education, Women and Social welfare, the general public to prevail on the university to produce the suspect for proper investigations.
