Tragedy as Ibarapa farmer dies in cocoa farm

Tragedy as a 65-year-old farmer identified as Alfa Sikiru Akinlotan was reportedly found dead on his farm after his cocoa plantation was set ablazed by unknown arsonists.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the farmer, Akinlotan was found dead on his burnt cocoa plantation on Wednesday in Igangan community, Ibarapa area of Oyo State.

As at the time of filing this report, the cause of death has not been ascertained yet.

Speaking on the sad development, the Amotekun Commandant in the state, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (Rtd.) confirmed the incident.

The commandant said “Alfa Sikiru Akinlotan from Gbogi Compound, Isale Amao area, Igangan, Ibarapa North Local Government died inside his farm at Itigbo, Apodun Road, Igangan, on Wednesday February 10, 2021.

“It happened that his cocoa farm with his cashew farm were set ablaze wherein he met his untimely death while he was trying to quench the fire. He was never attacked by any Fulani or other person.”

Igangan has been in the news in recent times for rising cases of insecurity by suspected herders.
