There are three months to go in the regular football season in Europe, and the biggest teams could end up without a trophy! Premier Bet’s AngoFoot service looks at current situation, as well as ahead to the end of the season.

League champions are struggling

Liverpool are well-known for finding victories when it seems all hope is lost, as they did just two seasons ago against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals. This time, though, it is hard to imagine them lifting the Premier League trophy again in May. They are the first reigning champions to lose three home league games in a row since 1956. Jurgen Klopp has all but conceded defeat, although this could just be mind games! However, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are the favourites to take back the title after their success in 2017/18 and 2018/19.

Could we be witnessing the end of Barcelona and Real Madrid’s dominance in La Liga? Atletico have lead the way and have benefitted from Barcelona’s decision to sell Luis Suarez – he could finish the season with the Pichichi Trophy for the most goals.

Juventus failed to sign the Uruguayan in the summer, and now their nine-year run as champions of the Serie A might be about to end. Napoli and Roma have come close in recent years, but this time both Milan and Inter finally look like they can finish above the Old Lady of Turin. It isn’t just here where Juventus’ players might struggle for silverware. Cristiano Ronaldo is eyeing the top scorer award but faces a fight from Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

In France, PSG are chasing a record-equalling tenth league title but are not finding it as easy as they have in recent seasons. New manager Mauricio Pochettino has already won the Trophée des Champions, but his team are competing with Lille and Lyon at the top of Ligue 1. Both sides were champions prior to the Parisians’ dominance, and now they have the opportunity to take back the title. Will they seize it?

European tournaments return

Bayern Munich may be on course to retain the Bundesliga title, but can they win the Champions League again too? Last season’s winners have been drawn against Lazio while PSG, beaten finalists, face Barcelona – can Neymar overcome his former club?

Either a Spanish or English side has won the Europa League in each of the last nine seasons. Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham are among the favourites to do it this time. Jose Mourinho lifted the trophy with the Red Devils four years ago – can he bring the silverware to Spurs?
