Enugu: Father of 2 cries out for help over wife’s worsening health condition

Trauma, anxiety and palpable fear have taken over the better of Mr Sunday Onuoha of Ezeagu community, Ezeagu local area of Enugu state as his wife is currently facing a worsening battle with kidney failure.

In an exclusive chat with WITHIN NIGERIA Onuoha, an indigene of Imezi-Owa, in Ezeagu Local Government Area of the State, told our reporter that his wife’s health challenges has literally thrown the family into financial incapacitation as it has drained it of finances it has hitherto garnered.

He said the wife, Ogechukwu Onuoha, 35 years, formerly hailed from Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, had been sick for over two years now.

Mrs. Onuoha: Needs urgent medical help

However, things got worse and her health took a nose dive in August 2022.

Narrating further, Mr. Onuoha said “we got married in 2017. She used to be sick which we usually treated in hospital and got she healed, or so we thought.

“However, things got worse in August 2022 and we went to the hospital only to be told after rigorous tests that her kidney has failed.

“We were even told that her two kidneys were affected. That was the report of a diagnosis we did in the hospital.”

Onuoha, who was struggling to keep his tears from dropping told WITHIN NIGERIA that consequent upon that, the hospital handling the wife’s health issue had given them the option of kidney transplant or thrice a week dialysis as a temporary measure.

“They said the only solution is kidney transplant, or dialysis, three times a week pending when we are ready for the transplant.

“They gave us an estimate for the transplant. It will gulp at least N16.1 million, in addition to other expenses involved. But as it stands now, even the money for the dialysis and for our feeding is a big issue.

Mrs. Onuoha undergoing dialysis

“I am just an artisan who specialize in POP ceiling and other forms of POP decorations.

“We were at the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Parklane, for over one month, which was in 2022.

“However, we had to go home because the bill was too much. We started going for dialysis from home. At the Caroline Medical Centre, Apo, Abuja, it was the same thing, the trip was sponsored by my uncle. So, everyone is exhausted financially right now.”

Explaining the cost of the dialysis, Onuoha said that “the dialysis we are supposed to do it thrice a week, N40,000 each, which is N120,000, in addition to another injection that costs N10,000, totalling N150,000 per week.

“Because I cannot afford N150, 000 per week, she has been undergoing dialysis only once in a week. I have been paying N50,000 every week. But as it stands now, we have exhausted all we have, even friends and relations have all done their best. The once a week dialysis is no longer sustainable.

Mr. Onuoha, traumatized

“Children’s school fees and other demands are also there. My first child Kosisochukwu is 5 years old, while the second one, Kamsiyocbukwu is 2 years old.”

Appealing passionately to Nigerians, Onuoha, a distressed and traumatized father said, Please I want all Nigerians to come to our aid. I’m totally confused and devastated.

“I don’t even know where the next meal will come from. I can’t run away and abandon my sick wife and kids.”

He however, gave his account details thus; Onuoha Nduka Sunday; Account Numb: 6235677609; Fidelity Bank. My Phone Number is 07030547879.
