NYSC: Certificate forgers risk jail

On Tuesday, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) disclosed that forgers of its discharge or exemption certificates risk going to jail, paying sizable fines or both.

This was made known in Abuja by the Director, Legal Services of the NYSC, Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, Director during the 2023 Legal Officers’ Capacity Building Training.

First FCT minister, Ajose-Adeogun, dies at 96

On Monday, the first minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun reportedly passed away.

It was gathered that the 96-year-old business tycoon passed away on July 1, 2023.

Oluremi Ajose-Adeogun, a family member, confirmed his passing in a statement she made on the family’s behalf.

Bamidele, Umahi, Ndume announced as principal officers of 10th Senate

On Tuesday, Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced Senators Opeyemi Bamidele, Dave Umahi and Ali Ndume as the principal officers of the 10th Senate.

The Senate President, who announced the principal officers said the officers emerged by consensus.

2023 election: Keyamo, Fani-Kayode promoted fake news – EU report alleges

On Tuesday, the European Union Election Observation Mission named a former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Femi Fani-Kayode, for propagating fake news during the 2023 general election in Nigeria.

EU charged Keyamo and Fani-Kayode of misleading Nigerians by spreading fake news during the 2023 general elections.

In its latest report, the EU Observers mentioned instances where both APC chieftains propagated fake news while campaigning for their candidates.

2023 Polls: EU Report An Imperialist Agenda – MURIC

On Tuesday, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) faulted the final report of the Union Election Observer Mission (EU EOM) team on Nigeria’s 2023 general election.

The MURIC Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola via a statement, described the report as an imperialist agenda.

Recall that the Chief Observer of the European Union Election Observer Mission (EU EOM), Barry Andrews, at a news conference in Abuja last week presented its final report on the 2023 general election in Nigeria. The report was an undisguised indictment of Nigeria’s electoral system.

The MURIC chief stated that 229 different observer groups deployed 146,913 domestic and international monitors, with 33 of them being international observer missions that deployed 2,113 observers, and that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) welcomed them.

Investigations on Mmesoma’s result falsification concluded — JAMB Registrar

On Tuesday, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede stated that the Board had concluded investigations on the case of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination candidate, Mmesoma Ejikeme, who was accused of fraudulently inflating her 2023 UTME score.

Oloyede made this disclosure in a transcript sent to newsmen.

He said, “The truth is that JAMB has concluded the investigation on Nmesoma’s score falsification matter. She was not the only one caught, just that others have chosen not to go out”, Oloyede said.

Era Of Single Party Domination Over — INEC Chairman, Yakubu

On Wednesday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) disclosed that the days of a single party dominating Nigerian national politics are over.

Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of INEC, stated this during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs).

According to INEC records, the 2023 elections produced the most diverse results since 1999.

Why many Nigerian pilgrims fell sick during 2023 Hajj — Official

On Thursday, a member of the Ogun State Adhoc Committee on 2023 Hajj and the Chairman of the sub-committee on Hajj, Tunde Oladunjoye shed more light on the pervasion of illness among many Nigerian pilgrims during this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia.

Recall that no fewer than 14 pilgrims died during this year’s Hajj and 41,000 fell ill.

Prophet Michael Ojo Olowere Is Dead

On Thursday, Prophet Michael Ojo Olowere, also known as Baba Olowere, a well-known evangelist and the founder of the Christ Apostolic Church, or CAC, Oke-Agbara, Ibadan passed away.

The cleric’s passing was reported by well-known Nigerian comedian and skit maker, Bayegun Oluwatoyin, aka Woli Arole, in a Facebook post.

Tinubu Suspends Tax On Telecom Services, Signs Four Executive Orders

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu signed four executive orders, one of which suspends the 5% Excise Tax on Telecommunication Services and the Excise Duty Escalation on Locally Made Goods.

This was revealed during a press conference at the State House in Abuja by Dele Alake, the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy.

He added that the Finance Act (Effective Date Variation) Order, 2023, which delays the start date of the modifications in the Act from May 23, 2023 to September 1, 2023, was also signed by the President.

Mmesoma confessed she forged UTME result — JAMB

On Saturday, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board says troubled Anambra candidate, Mmesoma Ejikeme finally confessed that she indeed falsified her 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination results.

According to the examination body, she made the confession when she appeared before a panel of independent investigators set up by the Anambra State Government to look into the matter.

She, however, didn’t give any reason or motive for her action when pressed by the panel, JAMB spokesperson Dr, Fabian Benjamin, said in a report made available to newsmen.

Federal High Court Grants DCP Abba Kyari Bail

On Thursday, DCP Abba Kyari was granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges that may involve money laundering.

In addition to being accused of money laundering, Kyari is also being held without bail on a primary accusation of trafficking cocaine.
