All eyes are on the 2027 general election as politicians from opposition parties such as the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), among others, defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The development, which many tagged as political alignment and realignment, has been described as a form of political cover or protection against electoral loss in 2027.
Party members of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), have described the detection as an acknowledgement of Tinubu’s political dexterity and sterling performance as a president, while opposition members from the Peoples Democratic Party described it as a show of political cowardice borne out of fear of electoral loss.
On October 14, 2025, Peter Mbah, the Governor of Enugu State, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mbah, while giving reasons for his defection, cited the PDP’s failure to recognize the voices of Enugu people and the party’s neglect of the region’s interests despite its loyalty.
He expressed hope that joining the APC would strengthen Enugu’s voice at the national level and facilitate development.
However, two governors have dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
