It is indeed a horrific moment for Chidebere Ugwu of Umunocha, Obukpa community, Nsukka local government area as his wife Chinenye allegedly bathed him with sizzling water.
According to our source, the incident which happened on Sunday, December 28, 2025 has set both the families of the husband and wife on a war path.
WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that the incident happened at Akure, Ondo state.
However, narrating the ugly incident to WITHIN NIGERIA when our reporter visited him at Bishop Shanahan Hospital Nsukka where he is currently receiving treatment, the victim explained that it has been a gory moment for him.
Writhing in pains and agony, he told our reporter that “on Sunday, December 28, 2025, I came back from outing and asked my wife to give me food and she refused. I decided to scoop the food from the pot myself.”
Narrating further Mr. Ugwu told our reporter that ” then inside the kitchen, I saw our big pot filled with boiling water. I asked my wife what she wanted to use the water and she replied that she wanted to use it to bathe. I immediately brought the pot down from the tripod.
” However, when I went back to the kitchen to get some more food, I discovered that she has taken the water back to the tripod. This time around, she went and got more firewood to quicken the boiling of the water.
“I was still eating the food when like a thunderbolt, she came inside my parlour with the pot full of boiling water and poured it all over my body. I was paralysed and dumbfounded but enmeshed in pains.
” I shouted at the top of my voice which attracted the presence of the neighborhood. My neighbors and apprentices wanted to beat her but I resisted them from laying hands on her.”
Mr. Chidebere told our reporter that ” I was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in the area. I asked my people to take her down to her parents down here in the East pending when I recover and will talk about it. She was quickly taken to her parents here in Nsukka.
” Few days later, I decided to come down here so that my people could see me and I will be recovering bit by bit. Two days ago, I was admitted here in this hospital for continuation of treatment.”
Asked if he had any quarrel with her in the past to warrant this ugly incident, Mr. Ugwu told our reporter that, ” some time in October 2025, I had sent her back to her parents to learn how to live in good relationship with her husband. I mandated her to stay three months before coming. But, two weeks after, her parents started calling me, appealing that I should allow her to come back. They asked me to send transport fare to her but I refused and in the next few days, she came back to our village in Akure around 3am”
On whether he was cheating on her, Mr. Ugwu told WITHIN NIGERIA that ” I don’t have even a girlfriend talk more of a woman to marry. ”
WITHIN NIGERIA also gathered that on December 24th, Chinenye reportedly poisoned her husband, maybe as a Christmas gift but the man survived the poison after vomiting blood.
Corroborating the story, Chidebere stated that ” yes, that was true. When my apprentices got to know this, she was forced to take the food which she refused and I told them to desist from forcing her to eat it because she might die in the process.”
WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that the suspect, Chinenye has been sent to her parents even as the police at Ondo state command and that of Enugu state is yet to confirm or react to the incident.
