African Democratic Congress, ADC in Enugu state has once again slid into crisis and chaos as the state congress held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 took a dangerous bend, producing three different factions and Executive Members within the party.
WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that seemed like little dispute within the opposition party has now turned into a full scale division with each faction producing different chairman of the party in the state.
Our source revealed that the crux of the matter was a reported move by defectors from Labour Party and People’s Democratic Party to unseat the incumbent state Chairman, Ms Stella Chukwuma.
At the centre of the early tension was a reported move by defectors from the Labour Party (LP) to unseat the sitting state chairman, Stella Chukwuma.
After much push and cajoling, she succumbed to pressure and aligned herself with another faction said to be loyal to Ibe Kachikwu.

The Kachikwu faction claimed they are the authetic ADC while stressing they are the original members of the party in the state.
In any case, few kilometres away in Enugu, another faction was also holding the party congress.
Our reporter gathered that the faction is believed to be sympathetic to Peter Obi and was holding its congress in Emene.
At the end of their exercise, Professor Austin Akubue emerged as chairman.
The group is said to enjoy the support of notable figures, including former state governor Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo and Chief Chinyeaka Ohaa.
Their gathering, our source revealed was without controversy. Former senator Gil Nnaji reportedly made a short appearance but left abruptly after seeing those that made up the membership of the meeting.
By and large, as this was going on a third faction, who are said to be loyal to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, convened at a hotel in Independence Layout.
After deliberation and voting, the delegates there elected General Chris Eze (rtd) as their state executive chairman.
Gen. Chris Eze , a former ambassador to India and ex-state secretary of the APC, was elected through a voice vote.
Our reporter gathered that his executive team includes Prince Acharabuagu Kingsley as Vice Chairman for Enugu North and Lolo Queen Nwankwo as Organising Secretary.
In his Eze promised an inclusive leadership style, assuring members that his camp would accommodate all interests and provide a fair playing field for aspirants ahead of future primaries.
The retired general in his acceptance speech promised to run the party with “absolute integrity, incorruptibility, and transparency.”
“I will not accept any inducement from any source whatsoever to do anything that will negatively impact the party.
“I will not spare any member of the party’s executive at any level in Enugu State who accepts such inducement, ” he said
However, the party’s state chairperson, Mrs Stella Chukwuma, has distanced herself and her executives from the congresses.
Mrs Chukwuma maintained that the ADC congresses in Enugu State remained suspended and anything other than that was none of her business.
“That is the only thing I can say for now, ” she said.
In a statement issued by Comrade Adolphus Udeh, Eze further declared that the ADC is positioning itself to take over power in Enugu State in the 2027 general elections, with a vision to establish a people-oriented and grassroots-driven government capable of delivering democratic dividends.
