WITHIN NIGERIA highlights two significant events that occurred on April 25 in the history of this country, Nigeria in an effort to create awareness for education and enlightenment purpose.
Mainok attack
On this day, April 25 in 2021, ISWAP insurgents killed 33 soldiers in Mainok, a town 36 miles (58 kilometres) west of Maiduguri in Borno State, Nigeria.
According to report, the militants wearing military camouflage arrived in four mine-resistant trucks, a scorpion armored personnel carrier, and several gun trucks.
Before launching their assault on the army base, they divided into three groups. A T-55 battle tank, a BTR-4EN, and many MRAPs were destroyed and taken by ISWAP at the base.
As airstrikes by the air force were being made against the assailants, they escaped to their camp near the Lawan Mainari axis.
The Mainok police station was set on fire in a fit of anger by ISWAP terrorists as they fled to the nearby primary school when they realized military planes were attacking them from above.
ISWAP ambushed the reinforcements when soldiers from Damaturu arrived in response, killing three, wounding nine, and taking an MRAP. Unintentionally bombing an army truck, an air force drone killed 20 people.
Following the assault, there was protracted and relentless combat in the Yobe province towns of Geidam, Kumuya, and Buni Gari. The NAF used ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) platforms in the air.
