EXPLAINER: What We Know About Osun’s 2026 Voters’ Register

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday, 9th July, presented the Electronic Register of Voters to political parties, providing a detailed breakdown of the state’s 2,339,233 registered voters by gender, age, occupation, disability status and electoral distribution.


The disclosure was made at the presentation of electronic voter registers to political parties by the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola at the commission’s office in Osogbo.

As the 2026 Osun gubernatorial poll draws nearer, political parties have intensified politicking, organizing rallies, walk to live, and reaching to people in both urban and rural communities in their efforts in soliciting for votes.

Here are 15 quick things to know about the 2026 Register of Voters in Osun:

  1. A total of 2,339,233 voters are registered to participate in the 2026 Osun governorship election.
  2. The voter register grew from 1,954,800 in 2023 to 2,339,233 in 2026, an increase of 384,433 voters.
  3. A total of 365,356 new voters were added during the 2025/2026 Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
  4. A total of 26,202 voters transferred into Osun, while 7,125 transferred out, resulting in a net gain of 19,077 voters.
  5. Female voters outnumber male voters in the state. Women account for 1,234,769 voters (52.79%), while men make up 1,104,464 (47.21%).
  6. Young voters dominate the register, with 857,056 voters aged 18–34, representing 36.64% of the electorate.
  7. Voters aged 35–49 account for 772,854 (33.04%), meaning nearly 70% of registered voters are below 50 years of age.
  8. Only 221,271 voters (9.46%) are aged 70 years and above, making them the smallest age category.
  9. Students are the largest occupational group, with 752,800 registered voters (32.18%).
  10.  Traders constitute the second-largest occupational category, accounting for 483,970 voters (20.69%).
  11.  Artisans rank third, with 320,416 registered voters (13.70%), while business owners account for 265,370 (11.34%).
  12.  Farmers and fishermen make up 187,312 registered voters (8.01%), while civil servants account for 115,158 (4.92%).
  13. Public servants number 48,920 (2.09%), while housewives are the smallest occupational category, with 13,063 voters (0.56%).
  14.  Persons with disabilities (PWDs) account for just 0.34% of Osun’s register of voters. Among registered PWDs, the largest category is “Others” (3,122 persons, 38.92%), followed by physical impairment (1,240 persons, 15.46%) and albinism (1,022 persons, 12.74%).
  15. Osun’s electoral landscape consists of 30 local government areas, 332 registration areas (wards), and 3,763 polling units, where the 2026 governorship election will be conducted.
