On July 15, 2011, a bomb blast in Maiduguri wounded 15 people, including eight police officers and seven civilians.
According to witnesses, the attackers threw a bomb at a police patrol vehicle.
Colonel Victor Ebhaleme gave a different account at the scene.
“A bomb was planted and a police van drove over it,” he told journalists. “The bomb exploded and injured eight policemen.”
Colonel Ebhaleme also confirmed that seven civilians were wounded in the blast.
Security forces cordoned off the area immediately after the explosion. Emergency responders evacuated the injured to nearby hospitals. Their condition has not yet been disclosed.
No group has claimed responsibility, but authorities suspect members of the Boko Haram sect carried out the attack.
In response, military and police units have intensified patrols across Maiduguri.
