Spain have now won the World Cup for the second time in history, having won it for the first time in 2010 in South Africa.
Argentina played extra time with 10 men after Fernandez was sent off in the 93rd minute for a foul on Cubarsi.
Argentina did not look like a team that could cause any real damage to Spain throughout the match, as they did not show any appetite or desire to take the game to Spain. Spain was by far the better.
