Suspected bandits invaded Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State barely two weeks ago, killing four security personnel and abducting the council chairman.
Residents who witnessed the attack said it happened around 11:40 p.m. when the council chairman, Nura Abdullahi, was abducted from Bungudu town alongside two other residents.
Bungudu LGA has now been attacked three times in 2026. As of the time of filing this report, the kidnap victims have not been rescued and the perpetrators remain at large.

Three Bandits Attacks in 2026
On March 28, 2026, bandits attacked Dangoro village and killed three people, including a member of the Community Protection Guard. Five others were shot and four sustained burns in the assault, according to reports.
In April, bandits also invaded Yarkatsinan Laka, where they attacked a health facility and a security outpost.
On July 25, 2026, gunmen stormed the Zango area of Bungudu town and abducted the Bungudu LGA Chairman, Hon. Nura Umar Bungudu, from his residence.
Casualties
In the Bungudu attacks, four security officials — 2 police officers and 2 vigilantes — were killed. Eight civilians were also killed, including 2 health workers and a patient.
In January 2026, four villagers were reportedly burned to death in Gwargwaba village, Nahuce District, after refusing to pay illegal levies.
Kidnap Victims
No fewer than 6 people were kidnapped by bandits. Security forces rescued 5 of them, leaving Bungudu LGA Chairman, Hon. Nura Umar Bungudu, as the only person still in captivity after he was taken into the bush.
How attacks happened
According to reports, the bandit attacks often occurred at night, around 10:30 p.m. or 12:30 a.m.
Witnesses said “about 50 gunmen armed with AK-47s and other sophisticated weapons arrived on motorcycles. They fired sporadically into the air and set houses, shops, livestock and silos ablaze.”
Targeted spots
According to reports, bandits during their attacks targeted government facilities like security outposts, health centers and chairman’s residence. We also learned that Gwargwaba attack linked to community refusal to pay illegal levies
Response
When bandits invaded these areas, a joint task force which comprises police and vigilante teams engaged in gun duels. Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops pursued attackers, leading to fierce exchange which eventually killed 11 bandits in the Yarkatsinan Laka clash. Two bandits were reportedly neutralized in Funture, Rugar Buda, Nahuce District.
IEDs recovered
According to reports, pressure-plate IED were found and safely destroyed along Bilbis–Kuncin Kalgo Road
Degrees of injuries sustained
No fewer than 10 people were injured during bandits’ attacks. Five people sustained gunshot injuries, while four had burn injuries in Dangoro. Vigilante Kabiru Auwal, 35, shot in the left hand with a fracture.
Location
Bungudu town lies less than 20km from Gusau, the Zamfara State capital. Other attacked communities in Bungudu LGA include Dangoro, Zango, Yarkatsinan Laka, Gwargwaba, and Rugar Buda/Funture.
Effects
Bandits destroyed houses, food silos, health dispensaries and livestock.
