For many BBNaija viewers, leaving the Big Brother house is expected to be the beginning of a new chapter filled with fame, opportunities and financial rewards.
But what happens when the cameras stop rolling, the attention fades and the reality of life outside the house sets in?
That question came into sharp focus in September 2026 after former BBNaija Season 10 housemate Daniel Olatunji, popularly known as Danboskid, opened up about the personal challenges he was facing.
His honesty did more than give fans a glimpse into his life after the show. It also triggered a wider conversation among former housemates about fame, hard work, brand deals and the expectations that come with being labelled a “BBNaija star.”
While some focused on the need to hustle beyond the reality show, others offered a different view of what contestants should be doing before they even enter the house.
Danboskid On Life After BBNaija
On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, Danboskid shared an emotional video in which he opened up about his current situation and his determination to change his circumstances.
The former housemate admitted that things had not been going well for him personally and said his family was also facing some challenges.
One of the more shocking revelations was that he had returned to his family home and was sleeping in his sister’s room.
Danboskid revealed his decision to speak publicly was not about asking people to feel sorry for him. He said he was tired of trying to maintain an image that other people had created for him and wanted to be honest about where he was in life.
He stressed that he was not asking for financial assistance. What he wanted was genuine advice, encouragement and support as he tried to rebuild. In his words:
“I don’t really know what to say, but I know I have so many things in mind. And I know I don’t know what’s going on with me. But I know I have to change what’s going on.
“I know I have to start being intentional. I know I have to start altering my own reality. Because I have to make things work regardless.”
Danboskid also made it clear that his family was not starving. He clarified:
“As I said, we’re not suffering. My dad is a tenant. So yeah, we’re just suffering mentally.”
He revealed that he had considered selling his laptop to raise money but eventually decided against it because he needed the device for his plans to rebuild his career. Among the ideas he mentioned were producing a movie, starting an accessories business and driving for Uber.
Danboskid was part of Big Brother Naija Season 10 in 2025, but his latest revelation showed that the reality show experience does not necessarily translate into an easy life afterwards.
Following his revelation, some former BBNaija housemates used the comment section to encourage him.
Urielmusicstar pointed out how difficult it can be to maintain the attention and lifestyle associated with appearing on Big Brother.
“People don’t know how hard it is to maintain after Big Brother…” she wrote.
Frodd also encouraged Danboskid to remain focused and consistent.
“God and Consistency bro, never let your mind win. You are strong, embrace your inner strength and gut,” he wrote.
But beyond the words of encouragement, the conversation soon moved towards a much bigger issue: what ex-housemates expect from life after BBNaija.
Kess: “Big Brother Makes Life Harder”
BBNaija Season 7 housemate Kess was one of the first to address the bigger picture. On Thursday, September 3, 2026, he shared his thoughts on X following Danboskid’s revelation.
Rather than seeing the experience simply as a ticket to fame and success, Kess argued that life can become even more complicated once a contestant leaves the house. He wrote:
“Big Brother makes your life harder. Winner or not, the moment you leave that house, you’re dealing with a version of life that is far more complicated than the one you left behind.”
His comment sparked a conversation because it challenged the popular idea that appearing on BBNaija automatically puts a contestant on a smooth path to success.
According to Kess, the pressure that comes with being recognised as a former housemate can create another layer of difficulty once the show ends.
And while his view attracted attention, another former housemate was quick to disagree.
Kassia Disagrees: “The Show Is A Platform”
Kassia Ubini, who appeared on BBNaija Season 9 in 2024 alongside her husband, Kellyrae, offered a different perspective.
Reacting to Kess’ post on X, Kassia argued that participating in BBNaija does not necessarily make life harder. Instead, she suggested that the outcome could depend on what a contestant already has in place before entering the house. She wrote:
“I think it only makes life harder if you had nothing going on for you before the show.”
Kassia argued that contestants should not enter the show solely with the expectation of getting brand deals afterwards.
For her, the smarter approach is to have something already in progress and then use the exposure from BBNaija to grow it. She continued:
“A lot of people go in thinking about brand deals, when the smarter thing is to already have something you’re building and use the show to take it to another level.”
She described BBNaija as a platform rather than a guarantee of success. Kassia added:
“The show is a platform. Build something before you go in, so you have something to amplify when you come out.”
She ended her argument with a biblical reference about the importance of having something to work with.
“Like the Bible says, ‘I will bless the works of your hands.’ If there’s no work, what is there to bless?”
Kassia’s response introduced another side to the debate.
While Kess focused on how complicated life can become after BBNaija, Kassia placed more emphasis on preparation and having something beyond the reality show to fall back on.
Tochi: Drop The “I Am A Celebrity” Mentality
BBNaija star Tochi took the conversation even further. Reacting to the growing discussion, Tochi shared a blunt message on his Instagram Story and X directed at former housemates who may be struggling after the show.
He urged them to stop allowing the “celebrity” label to prevent them from doing ordinary work or finding other ways to make a living. He wrote:
“If you’re a Bbnaija Ex housemate and you’re going through a rough time listen ‘pack up all that I am a celebrity nonsense and lock it inside a box.. come out and hustle oh,’.”
Tochi argued that not every contestant who appears on the show will achieve long-term success through the platform. He said former housemates should accept that people have different paths and should not measure their progress against that of other contestants.
“Destiny differs, not everyone is destined to make it from the show.”
Tochi also shared his own change in mindset, explaining that he had stopped defining himself mainly by his time on BBNaija.
“I have even forgotten I went on that show since 2024, I see myself as a businessman now.”
His advice was for former housemates to focus on building value rather than constantly reminding people that they are celebrities. Tochi said:
“When people see you let them not see you only as an Ex housemate but also a hustler with values trying to make it.”
He also warned former housemates to be careful about the people around them, encouraging them to stay close to those who support and motivate them rather than people who constantly remind them of their celebrity status. He concluded:
“Favor always meet a man in motion.”
Phyna Questions Obsession With Brand Deals
Phyna agreed with Tochi’s position and used his post to address another issue she believes has affected how BBNaija stars measure success: brand deals.
Quoting Tochi’s X post, Phyna wrote, “Finally someone said it.”
She questioned the idea that former housemates should simply carry the title of “star,” wait for endorsement opportunities and consider that enough.
“Since most of them decided to measure bbn stars by the number of deal they have,” she wrote, arguing that some people had come to believe that getting on the show meant they no longer needed to hustle as hard.
Phyna also took aim at the way the reported value of celebrity endorsement deals is sometimes presented. She claimed that a brand could sign a reality star for ₦5 million while the public announcement could suggest a much larger figure. She wrote:
“Popular brands go sign you with 5m them go say make una announce 50million then you as the star go con dey feed on bragging rights and title with empty pockets after management don comot their 25% from the 5m.”
For Phyna, the bigger problem is the pressure to maintain an image of success based on titles, deal announcements and perceived status.
She criticised what she described as classism within the reality TV space and suggested that some former housemates could end up holding on to the appearance of success while struggling financially behind the scenes. She concluded:
“This idea of classism don too chop into people head, but we go dey okay.”
So, What Really Happens After BBNaija?
Danboskid’s admission, Kess’ warning, Kassia’s disagreement, Tochi’s advice and Phyna’s comments all point to the same uncomfortable question: what does BBNaija really guarantee?
The show can provide visibility. It can introduce contestants to millions of viewers, create opportunities and give them a platform to build a career. But visibility is not the same as financial security.
For Kess, the reality of leaving the house can be more complicated than many contestants expect.
For Kassia, the key is to already have something worth building before the cameras come on.
Tochi’s message is even simpler: do not allow the celebrity label to stop you from working.
And Phyna questions whether brand deals should be treated as the ultimate measure of success in the first place.
