This is not an impulse purchase, at $1,999 to start, it costs roughly double what many flagship Android phones sell for, and the first-generation nature of the hardware (new hinge, new battery architecture, unproven long-term durability) is the kind of thing that historically improves a lot by the second or third generation of any Apple product category.
