Has Davido changed his mind about APC? Gov. Adeleke’s new role in Tinubu’s 2027 Campaign and the statement driving the question

Tinubu, Davido, Governor Adeleke

Davido is back in the political conversation after his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, was reportedly appointed to coordinate President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign in the state. The development has brought back a strong statement the singer made during the 2026 Osun governorship election, when he openly declared that he could never support the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reports published on October 13, 2026, announced Adeleke’s new campaign role. By the following day, attention had shifted to Davido after he shared a video of his uncle on social media.

The timing from the singer caught people’s attention, given his earlier declaration against the party and his active support for Adeleke during the Osun election.

So, has Davido changed his mind about the APC, or is his uncle’s new political assignment being linked to the singer simply because of their family relationship? To understand why the question has resurfaced, it is worth looking at what Davido said, why Adeleke is backing Tinubu and what the singer actually posted.

Davido Reacts After Adeleke Gets Tinubu Campaign Appointment

The development began making headlines on October 13, when reports announced that the APC had appointed Governor Adeleke as the Osun State coordinator for Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign.

The appointment raised eyebrows because Adeleke had just secured another term as Osun governor under the Accord Party, defeating the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in the August 2026 election.

A day after the announcement, reports highlighted Davido’s Instagram Story, where he shared a video of his uncle dancing and singing. The post quickly became part of the conversation surrounding Adeleke’s new political responsibility.

Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, has been an outspoken supporter of his uncle. During the Osun election, he used his public platform to campaign for Adeleke and made his opposition to the APC known.

His latest social media activity has therefore attracted attention, but the video alone does not show that he has changed his political position. He shared footage of his uncle without reportedly making a fresh statement about the APC or Tinubu’s re-election bid.

For now, the appointment and Davido’s post are the developments driving the story. Whether the singer still holds the same political views he expressed during the Osun election remains unanswered.

The Statement That Has Put Davido’s Political Views Back in Focus

During the build-up to the August 2026 Osun governorship election, Davido made his position on the APC clear.

The singer wrote:

“I can never support APC in my life!!!”

The statement left little room for doubt about how he felt at the time. His uncle was contesting against the APC’s Bola Oyebamiji, and Davido was publicly supporting Adeleke’s bid to remain governor.

The declaration has resurfaced following news of Adeleke’s appointment to Tinubu’s 2027 campaign team. With the governor now taking on a role in a presidential campaign associated with the same party Davido opposed, attention has naturally returned to the singer’s earlier words.

However, Davido made that declaration during a state governorship election. Adeleke’s new assignment concerns Tinubu’s presidential re-election campaign, which is a different political contest.

That does not make the singer’s statement any less direct. It simply means that anyone claiming he has changed his mind would need more than his uncle’s new appointment or a video shared on social media to back up the claim.

Why Adeleke Is Supporting Tinubu Despite Winning Under the Accord Party

Adeleke’s reported appointment has also raised questions about his political relationship with Tinubu, particularly because he won re-election under the Accord Party rather than the APC.

The governor had reportedly explained his support for the president before the latest campaign council announcement. During an interview with Channels Television, Adeleke was quoted as saying:

“I never reached an agreement with Mr President. My support is just based on, he’s a Yoruba man, and he’s from the South West.”

His explanation pointed to their shared regional background as a reason for backing Tinubu. It also suggested that his support for the president was not necessarily the result of a formal political agreement.

Adeleke’s position is noteworthy because he recently defeated the APC in Osun State, yet is now reportedly taking responsibility for coordinating support for Tinubu in the same state.

Winning an election under one party does not automatically prevent a politician from supporting a presidential candidate from another party. Adeleke’s reported appointment, however, does not by itself mean he has formally defected to the APC.

For the governor, the immediate development is his reported involvement in Tinubu’s re-election campaign. For Davido, the question is whether his own views have changed since he made his emphatic declaration against the party.

How Davido Backed His Uncle During the Osun Governorship Election

The August 2026 election provides the clearest background to Davido’s earlier statement.

Adeleke contested for another term under the Accord Party after previously being associated with the Peoples Democratic Party. His main challenger was Oyebamiji, the APC candidate.

According to results reported by Channels Television on August 16, 2026, Adeleke won the election with 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji received 444,815 votes. African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam came third with 17,180 votes.

Adeleke won in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victories in the remaining 11.

The result returned Adeleke to office for another term and marked the end of a closely watched contest in which Davido had publicly supported his uncle.

The singer’s opposition to the APC was part of that election-period conversation. His statement was made when the party was directly challenging Adeleke for control of Osun State.

Now, with the governor reportedly joining Tinubu’s campaign effort, the political circumstances surrounding the family have changed. But Adeleke’s decision does not tell us whether Davido has reconsidered the position he expressed during the election.

Adeleke’s New Assignment in Tinubu’s 2027 Campaign

Adeleke’s reported appointment places him among the political figures expected to help organise support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

According to Channels Television’s October 13 report, other appointments included Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike as coordinator for Rivers State and the FCT, and Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo as coordinator for Anambra State.

The appointments have attracted attention because they involve political figures whose backgrounds and party affiliations do not all align with the APC.

Adeleke’s inclusion is particularly interesting given his recent victory over the APC in Osun and his decision to remain associated with the Accord Party.

His new campaign role could strengthen his political relationship with Tinubu ahead of the next presidential election. However, the precise responsibilities attached to the appointment would depend on the campaign council’s arrangements.

The announcement has also brought Davido’s earlier statement back into public discussion. The singer’s opposition to the APC was widely expressed during his uncle’s governorship campaign, making his reaction to the latest development an obvious talking point.

Even so, Adeleke’s political decisions remain his own. His new assignment does not establish that Davido has joined him in supporting Tinubu.

What Davido’s Instagram Story Actually Shows

Davido’s post has attracted attention largely because of when he shared it.

After reports emerged about Adeleke’s appointment, the singer posted a video of his uncle dancing and singing on his Instagram Story. The timing led to questions about whether he was comfortable with his uncle’s new political role.

But the reported post did not include an explicit declaration of support for Tinubu or the APC.

Davido could have shared the video simply because it featured his uncle. Without an explanation from the singer, however, it would be difficult to establish exactly what he intended the post to communicate.

His earlier statement is much clearer. He directly declared that he would never support the APC, and that declaration was made publicly during the Osun governorship election.

The Instagram Story, on the other hand, does not reveal whether he still feels the same way. Nor does it establish that he has withdrawn his earlier statement.

That is why the post has generated a question rather than providing an answer. The singer has drawn attention because of his family connection to Adeleke and his previous comments about the APC, but he has not reportedly clarified his position following the appointment.

Has Davido Changed His Mind About the APC?

There is currently no clear evidence in the reported developments that Davido has changed his mind about the APC.

The singer previously declared, “I can never support APC in my life!!!” during the Osun governorship election. His uncle has now reportedly accepted a role coordinating Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign in the state, and Davido subsequently shared a video of Adeleke dancing and singing.

Those developments explain why people are revisiting the singer’s old statement. They do not, however, establish that he has changed his political position.

Adeleke has given his own explanation for supporting Tinubu, referring to their shared regional background. Davido has not reportedly offered a new explanation of his political views in response to his uncle’s appointment.

Until the singer speaks directly about the development, his current position remains unclear. His previous declaration is still the clearest reported indication of his views on the APC, while his Instagram Story has not provided a definitive answer.

The interesting part of this story is that Adeleke’s new political role has revived a statement Davido made when the two were on the same side of a different election contest. The governor is now reportedly helping Tinubu prepare for 2027, but whether his nephew still stands by his earlier words is a question only Davido can settle.
