Toluwanisings: 8 things to know about the Osun-born gospel singer who died at a young age

Some deaths leave behind more questions than answers. For fans of gospel music, October 14, 2026, became one of those days.

The death of gospel singer Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, came as a shock to many who had followed his music and ministry.

Here are eight things to know about the late singer.

Toluwanisings

1. His real name was Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji

Toluwanisings was the stage name of Nigerian gospel singer and minister Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji. He was known for his energetic praise sessions, worship songs and Yoruba-influenced gospel sound. His music was closely tied to his Christian faith, with many of his songs centred on praise, worship, gratitude and God’s faithfulness.

He also ministered under the Toluwani Gospel Music Ministry (TOGOMM).

2. He hailed from Osun State

Toluwanisings was born July 8 and hailed from Ikirun in Osun State, although he was based in Ibadan, Oyo State, where he developed a large part of his music audience.

He became known beyond his immediate community through his songs, live ministrations and growing presence on digital music platforms.

3. His music gained wider attention in 2021

Although Toluwanisings had been involved in gospel music before then, 2021 became an important turning point in his career.

His music gained wider attention after comedian and gospel minister Woli Arole shared one of his songs online. The exposure helped introduce him to a much larger audience and contributed to his rise in the gospel music scene.

One of the projects that helped establish his name was Kos’Oluwa Laye, released in 2021. The project became one of his recognised works as he continued to build his audience through streaming platforms and social media.

Rather than relying only on traditional church appearances, Toluwanisings was part of a generation of gospel artistes who used digital platforms to take their music to a wider audience.

4. He was known for songs including ‘Kos’Oluwa Laye’ and ‘A Very Big God’

Over the years, Toluwanisings built a catalogue of gospel songs and praise projects. Some of his recognised works include ‘Kos’Oluwa Laye’, ‘Kabiyesi Olorun Ayo’, ‘A Very Big God’, ‘E Lagbara’, ‘The Name of Jesus’ and his ‘Unreserved Praise’ series.

He also collaborated with fellow gospel singer Adeyinka Alaseyori on ‘Ase Ti Jade’, adding another notable collaboration to his catalogue.

His music often moved between lively Yoruba praise and worship, giving listeners songs that could work both as personal devotional music and as part of church worship.

5. He was a husband and father

Away from music, Toluwanisings was a husband and family man. In September 2026, less than a month before his death, he marked his fifth wedding anniversary with his wife.
In the message, he described their five years together as a journey of “walking together, growing together, loving each other” and experiencing what he called the faithfulness of God.

He also acknowledged the difficult seasons, laughter and lessons they had experienced together, describing his wife as his “partner, my friend, my safe place, and my greatest blessing.”

Toluwanisings and his wife have two daughters. Their first daughter, Ogo (Ogo omo oga ogo) O’Tope Hephzibah turned 4 years old in July 2026. Their second daughter, Irorun (officially named Irorun O’toyin Deborah Iyinponmile Apeke), turned 2 years old on October 8, 2026, just days before his tragic passing.

6. He survived a serious road accident in July

About three months before his death, Toluwanisings survived a serious road accident with members of his music crew. The accident occurred in July 2026, while the team was returning from a gospel ministration. Their vehicle collided with a fully loaded trailer and was badly damaged.

Toluwanisings shared photographs of the damaged vehicle on social media and expressed gratitude that he and the members of his team survived. In the post, he wrote:

“And we survived what would have claimed our lives.”

He also described the incident as a reminder that “God is the only sure plug when it comes to protection” and added, “Jesus does save!!!”

7. His final hours were followed by confusion and prayers

The events surrounding Toluwanisings’ death unfolded rapidly on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. Reports of concern about his condition spread online during the day. Fellow gospel ministers, including Woli Agba and Lanre Alewilese, urged people to continue praying rather than conclude that he had died.

The reports came after he had reportedly ministered at In His Presence, a monthly worship programme hosted by gospel singer Bidemi Olaoba in Ibadan, on Tuesday night, October 13. By Wednesday, reports circulated that he had reportedly complained of tiredness and later slumped while climbing the stairs before being rushed to the hospital.

The uncertainty continued for hours until his family finally confirmed his death. In a statement shared on his social media account on Wednesday night, the family said he died in the early hours of October 14, 2026.

The family asked the public to keep his wife and loved ones in their prayers and said funeral arrangements would be announced later. As of the time of the family’s announcement, his cause of death had not been disclosed.

8. His death cut short a growing gospel career

Toluwanisings died at a time when his visibility in Nigeria’s gospel music space was still growing. His music had taken him from local ministrations to a much wider digital audience, with streaming platforms helping his songs reach listeners beyond Nigeria’s traditional church and gospel music circles.

His death also prompted tributes from colleagues and public figures.

Woli Agba, who had earlier asked people to continue praying when reports of the singer’s death first emerged, later mourned him in an emotional tribute. Describing Toluwanisings as “a very unique voice,” he wrote that the singer’s voice had brought joy and touched souls before lamenting that it had gone silent too soon.

Actress Funke Akindele also remembered him as “such a humble and hard working gentle man,” while other entertainers and gospel artistes expressed shock over his death.

For those who listened to his music, however, his legacy will extend beyond the shock of his final days. Through songs such as Kos’Oluwa Laye, A Very Big God, E Lagbara and Unreserved Praise, Toluwanisings established a place for himself in Nigeria’s contemporary gospel music scene.

Conclusion

Toluwanisings’ death on October 14 came suddenly, leaving behind a young family, colleagues, fans and a gospel music community still trying to process the loss.

While questions remain about the circumstances of his death, the story of his career is also one of a gospel minister who used music, praise and worship to build a growing audience.
His voice may have gone silent, but the songs he left behind continue to tell part of his story.
