More states have ratified the bill, which seeks to give subnational governments more authority, control, and responsibility over security matters within their domains as Nigeria moves to restructure and decentralise its policing architecture and framework.
Recall that the National Assembly passed the state police Bill into law in June.
Twenty-four states have now approved the state police bill. In other words, the constitutional threshold of 2/3rd of the 36 states needed for the state police bill to become law has been achieved.
More states are expected to approve the bill next after the constitutionally required 24-state endorsement benchmark was met.
