The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) says two suspected cases of Ebola virus disease have been identified in Nigeria’s North-East region, with both individuals isolated as investigations and laboratory tests continue.
The agency announced the development on Saturday through its official X page, stating that efforts were underway to identify and list people who may have had contact with the suspected cases.
It clarified that the classification of the two individuals as suspected cases does not mean they have tested positive for Ebola, noting that confirmation would depend on the outcome of laboratory investigations.
The NCDC urged Nigerians to maintain proper hand hygiene, observe improved sanitation practices and adhere to public health advice to reduce the risk of infection.
The agency added that further information would be made available as verified details emerge from ongoing investigations.
WITHIN NIGERIA, however, understands that the NCDC did not identify the two affected states, while Nigeria’s North-East region comprises Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe states.
