Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has opened up about the circumstances that led to the breakdown of his relationship with Afrobeats star David Adeleke, better known as Davido, linked their fallout to disagreements surrounding the death of former Marlian Records singer, Mohbad.
On November 4, 2026, VDM reacted to a viral video showing Davido singing along to lyrics from Zlatan’s song INFERNO at the wedding welcome party. The lyrics, which included a reference to someone named Vincent, were widely interpreted as a dig at VeryDarkMan.
VDM responded with a video mocking Davido over a resurfaced 2024 viral clip in which the singer was seen kneeling before an American model, Gorgeous Doll, while allegedly pleading for intimacy.
Explaining how they fell out, in a new video addressing his followers, popularly known as the Ratel, VDM recounted how he first became close to Davido during the Justice for Mohbad campaign, before allegedly discovering that someone within the singer’s circle was involved in efforts that led to his arrest in 2024.
According to the activist, Davido initially reached out to him after he joined the campaign demanding justice for Mohbad. He said the singer followed him on social media, established contact and gradually developed a close relationship with him.
However, VDM claimed that everything changed after his release from detention in 2024, when he discovered an alleged WhatsApp group involving actress Iyabo Ojo, Davido’s associate Dre DMW and other celebrities who had participated in the campaign for Mohbad.
He said he was shocked by conversations he discovered in the group, particularly what he described as evidence suggesting that Dre DMW was among those who planned his arrest. The discovery reportedly left him questioning how someone within Davido’s circle could be involved in such activities despite his close relationship with the singer.

VDM said he subsequently attempted to reach Davido privately on several occasions to establish whether the singer knew about the alleged plans. However, he claimed that Davido repeatedly ignored his calls and made no effort to return them.
The activist explained that he initially wanted to resolve the issue privately rather than make their disagreement public. His suspicion reportedly increased after he came across a blog publication claiming that he had been disturbing Davido with calls, while the singer refused to answer because he feared VDM might record their conversation.
Questioning how the blog obtained information about his private attempts to contact Davido, VDM suggested that the singer might have shared the information in an attempt to portray him negatively.
He further argued that the disagreement was connected to his position on Naira Marley, who became one of the major figures under public scrutiny following Mohbad’s death.
Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba, died on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27. His death triggered nationwide outrage, with fans and activists demanding an investigation into his previous allegations of intimidation and assault involving individuals associated with Marlian Records.
Naira Marley and his associate, Sam Larry, subsequently faced intense public scrutiny over their alleged roles in the events preceding the singer’s death. Both became central figures in the controversy, although allegations against them were not themselves proof of responsibility for Mohbad’s death.
VDM maintained that his position was that Naira Marley should not be treated as guilty without a proper investigation. He suggested that his refusal to join what he considered a campaign against the former Marlian Records boss contributed to the hostility he experienced from some celebrities who had initially participated in the Justice for Mohbad movement.
The activist also recalled an alleged earlier disagreement between Davido’s camp and Naira Marley’s associates, claiming that members of the latter’s circle had beaten members of Davido’s entourage during a house party.
According to VDM, the incident created animosity between both camps, which he believes influenced subsequent events surrounding the Mohbad controversy. He alleged that Davido and some people around him became determined to damage Naira Marley’s reputation, with the singer’s death providing an opportunity to pursue that objective.
VDM’s account places the alleged disagreement between the two entertainment camps at the centre of his explanation for why his relationship with Davido deteriorated, particularly after he began questioning the activities of people within the singer’s circle.
His own arrest in May 2024 had followed a separate controversy involving several entertainment personalities. He was arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja on five counts of alleged cyberstalking involving individuals including Iyabo Ojo, Tonto Dikeh and Samklef. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in June 2024.
