The Oyo State Government has stated that it will ensure that copyright laws are strictly enforced in the state.
This is according to a statement issued on Monday in Ibadan by the State Commissioner for Information, Mr Wasiu Olatunbosun.
When Mrs Bisi Ogundiran, the South-West Zonal Manager of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, visited his office, the commissioner stated that the state would crack down hard on piracy.
Olatunbosun, on the other hand, requested the commission’s help in putting an end to the state’s piracy problem.
“The state will gladly deploy various strategies, both online and offline, to ensure that pirates stop reaping where they do not sow.”
“The Oyo State Government welcomes collaborations with both private and public entities.”
“The Oyo State Government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, is committed to improving the state’s economic status.”
“And one of these is this type of enforcement, which we will do in all nooks and crannies of the state,” he said.
Olatunbosun stated that because the state was gradually becoming a hub for the entertainment industry, it would do everything in its power to combat piracy.
“We are aware that entertainers and authors lose billions of naira each year to piracy, leaving them at the mercy of philanthropists when they require assistance.” “We will put a stop to this,” he said.
In response, Ogundiran stated that the commission was willing to work with the state government to fight pirates.
“With the support of the Oyo State Government, it will be simple for us to begin addressing and reducing the level of piracy,” she said.
