A member representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, James Faleke, has expressed sadness and shock over the death of Kemi Nelson, a former deputy national women leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Faleke in a condolence message on Sunday in Lagos said the death of Nelson was not only a big loss to Ikeja Local Government Area and Lagos State but to the entire progressives family and the nation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nelson, an apex leader of Ikeja LGA and member Governor’s Advisory Council, was also a former commissioner in Lagos State.
She passed on after a prolonged illness at the age of 66.
Faleke, who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Finance, condoled with the people of Ikeja Federal Constituency, the government, and the people of Lagos State, on the loss of the frontline politician.
He said: “Very sad day for me and the political family. The loss of the Osun election is compounded by the unfortunate loss of our very dear mother and leader, Kemi Nelson. She will be greatly missed and may her soul rest in peace.”
NAN reports that Nelson was also a former executive director of Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).
She was appointed to NSITF by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019, a position she held until May 2021.
She was born on Feb. 9, 1956, and schooled in Ijebu, Lagos, and Ibadan; and was survived by three children.
Before her death, Nelson was the Yeye Oge of Lagos State and one of the right-hand loyalists of the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.
