Reps laud Shippers Council boss for prudent financial management

The House of Representatives Committee on Finance, has commended the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr Emmanuel Jime for improving financial management in the council.

The Deputy Chairman of the committee, Rep. Abdullahi Saidu (APC-Niger) gave the commendation on Thursday at the hearing on the 2023-2025 Medium Term Expenditure Framework/Fiscal Strategy Paper (MTEF/FSP) in Abuja.

He said that a tremendous increase has been noticed in the amount generated and remittanced into government coffers since he assumed office.

“I must commend you, the chief executive, since you assumed office, we have cause to interact with you and anytime we call on you, you never shy away from appearing before the committee.

“This is in spite of the fact that you were in the assembly and you appreciate the work that we are doing; I must put it on record that you have displayed responsibility in terms of what the nation expects from you,’’ he said.

Saidu passed a vote of confidence of the executive secretary challenging him to do more and surpass the 2022 revenue target of the council.

Responding, Jime appreciated the kind words of the committee and attributed the successes of the council to the advice and guidance of the committee.

“Let me thank Mr Chairman and by extension, the members of this committee for kind words, as member of this house, I owe it a duty to exhibit the highest sense of responsibility and indeed support the wok of this committee.

“I believe that it is the cooperation that we get and the guidance we have received from members of this committee that has helps in the work that we do and for that reason, I wish to express our profound gratitude,’’ he said.

Jime told the committee that in 2021, the council remitted N550 million into government coffer and that in 2022, N810 million has been so far remitted, expressing hope to surpass the revenue target.
