Officer dead as hoodlums attack police station in Imo

Armed men suspected to be hoodlums have reportedly attacked the Divisional Police Headquarters, Isiala Mbano in Imo state on Saturday, March 20 at about 6:30pm.

A police officer who sustained degrees of injuries during the attack lost his life while receiving medical treatment.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the hoodlums invaded the station in large numbers and started shooting sporadically into the air to cause tension and scare people away.

According to report, the hoodums were successfully repelled by operatives of the Division.

Some doors and windows were destroyed after the encounter between the operatives and hoodlums.

The police public relations officer in the state, SP Ikeowku Orlando confirmed the incident.

Orlando said no arm(s) was taken away but that an Inspector who was on duty at the time of the attack, gave up the ghost while receiving treatment as a result of injuries sustained during the melee.

During an on-the-spot assessment of the station, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Nasiru Mohammed, decried the level of damage in the Division which he termed as barbaric.

He encouraged officers not to be deterred by this attack, but be charged to brace up the challenge and ensure policing activities continue in the area.

The police boss warned those responsible for all the attacks to desist from it, or be prepared to face the law.
