The Northern Governors Forum (NGF) has strongly condemned the killing of a former aide of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and cautioned the public against politicising issues surrounding the murder.
WITHIN NIGERIA reported that gunmen on Sunday shot a former presidential aide, Ahmed Gulak, to death while on his away to Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Imo State.
Reacting to the development, the police disclosed that six armed bandits on Sunday morning killed a former presidential aide, Ahmed Gulak, in Owerri, the Imo state capital.
The State Police Command spokesperson, Bala Elkana disclosed this in a statement shortly after the politician was murdered.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had accused the APC of being responsible for the escalated tension, kidnappings, and killings in the country.
The APC, in a statement by John Akpanudoedehe, its national secretary, caretaker committee, had hit back at the PDP, saying the opposition party was excited about the security challenges bedeviling the nation.
Speaking on the development, the chairman of the forum and governor of Plateau, Simon Lalong described the incident as unfortunate and a criminal act that must be condemned.
The governor warned against politicising issues surrounding the death which could lead to further violence.
According to him, the report by the police “indicates that they have identified and engaged the suspected killers of Gulak, and should further be consolidated upon to enable security agencies to forestall future occurrences”.
The governor also condemned the abduction of schoolchildren by bandits from Salihu Tanko Islamic School in Rafi LGA of Niger state.
He reiterated the commitment of the forum in working with security agencies and the federal government in tackling the “ugly level of insecurity in the region and the nation at large”.
