47-year-old car snatcher arrested in Lagos

A 47-year-old man, Chinebere Innocent has been arrested by officers of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad for allegedly stealing a Prado Sport Utility Vehicle.

The police spokesperson in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, who disclosed this in a statement, indicated that the Abia State indigene was arrested on Thursday at Ojota area of Lagos State while driving the stolen vehicle to his hometown.

It was gathered that the suspect confessed that he stole the vehicle from a security man when he was re-parking another vehicle inside a compound.

Chinebere was quoted as saying in the statement thus, “As I was returning from my sister’s place who refused me entry into her apartment at Gbagada, I saw the Prado parked on the road with its engine running. I quickly entered it and headed towards the Lagos-Ibadan expressway before I was caught at Ojota towards the old toll gate.”

The vehicle was said to belong to one Mr Olumide Oluwayomi, residing at Towobola area of Gbagada, Lagos State.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has charged the Divisional Police Officers and traffic surveillance officers of areas prone to robbery in traffic on effective strategies to address and tackle incidences of traffic robbery in the areas.

He spoke at a meeting at the command’s conference room, State Headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos.

Odumosu mapped out strategies to tackle the menace of traffic robbery at certain areas which included Ketu/Mile 12, Marina/Eko Bridge, Apongbon, Mile 2 and Lekki/Ajah areas.
