Microblogging and social networking service, Twitter has deleted a post made by Nnamdu Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for ‘violating rules’ of the platform.
The tweet, which was made by Kanu on June 2, was no longer available on the IPOB leader handle as of Saturday evening.
The tweet seemed to have been made in reference to the federal government’s decision to take action regarding attacks on public buildings in the south-east, which have led to the killing of several security operatives.
In the post, Kanu had threatened government officials and said “any army they send to #Biafraland will die there. None will return alive even if it means sacrificing my people”.
Twitter’s decision to delete Kanu’s tweet is coming hours after the federal government suspended the operations of of the microblogging site in Nigeria.
Recall that Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, has announced the suspension of Twitter in a statement issued on Friday.
“The persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence,” he said.
