The executive governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodimma has stated that “so-called politicians” who are behind the recent attacks in the state should repent or face the wrath of God.

This was stated on Tuesday by the governor when he paid a condolence visit to the state police command.

Recall that over the past months, the state has witnessed a series of attacks on security facilities, including the police headquarters and correctional centre in Owerri, the Imo capital.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ahmed Gulak in May was killed by gunmen in the state, while on his way to the airport.

However, police authorities have repeatedly blamed the security challenges in the state on the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), but the governor has insisted that politicians are behind the attacks.

“I will also use this opportunity to condemn the politicians, the so-called politicians parading themselves as politicians that are interested in murdering lives, to repent or face the wrath of God, because the God we serve is a supreme God,” he said.

The governor told police officers to defend themselves as they are the only ones licensed to carry guns.

He also asked the police officers to shoot at those who attack their stations, adding that self-preservation is the best form of defence.

“Secondly, let me assure you that you are the only ones licensed to carry guns in Nigeria. When we hear that somebody who is not licensed to carry gun came with gun to kill a man who is licensed to carry gun, we marvel,” he said.

“Under your rules of engagement, self-preservation is the best form of defence. Going forward, don’t close your eyes and allow ungunmen (sic) to murder you in blood.

“Before the man will cock his gun, you should shoot them. Why will you allow an idiot to carry gun, enter police station, kill people and carry away things that are there?”
