Armed men kill Zamfara lawmaker, abduct son and driver

Armed men suspected to be kidnappers have killed Muhammed Ahmad, a lawmaker representing Shinkafi constituency in the Zamfara house of assembly.

The abduction has been confirmed by the house’s director of press and public affairs, Mustafa Jafaru-Kaura.

Jafaru-Kaura said the gunmen also kidnapped the lawmaker’s son and driver.

He said the incident occurred on Tuesday at Sheme in Kastina state while Ahmad was on his way to Kano.

“He was taking his son to a hospital in Kano. The lawmaker’s son and driver were kidnapped by the bandits,’’ Jafaru-Kaura said.

The late lawmaker will be buried in line with Islamic tradition today.

Over 90 persons were reportedly killed when gunmen attacked Kadawa village in Zurmi LGA of the state in the early days of June.

The bandits, who reportedly spoke in foreign languages, were said to have shot at anyone who tried to escape during the attack.

Speaking on the incessant attacks in the state, Bello Matawalle, the governor had lamented that the insecurity situation in Zamfara was getting worse.

Matawalle had said despite efforts to curtail the menace, banditry had reverted to how it used to be before his administration.

He vowed that the criminals and their sponsors will not be spared no matter how highly placed they are in society.
