You’re a disgrace, Canadian Justice Minister blasts Malami over Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest

The Minister of Justice and Solicitor-General of the Government of Alberta, Canada, Kelechi Madu, has described Nigerian Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Abubakar Malami as a disgrace to the rule of law over the arrest and extradition of the Supreme Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Madu alleged that Malami is a “bigot who does not understand what it means to live in a pluralistic society governed by the dictates of the rule of law.”

The Canadian Minister of Justice stated this in a post on his LinkedIn page while reacting to claims that the IPOB leader was rearrested in Kenya.

He urged President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately release the IPOB leader for Kanu’s safety.

WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that Malami had announced that Kanu was arrested through the joint efforts of Nigerian intelligence and security services.

“Self-acclaimed leader of the proscribed secessionist Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Kanu, has been intercepted through the collaborative efforts of Nigerian intelligence and Security Services.

“He has been brought back to Nigeria, in order to continue facing trial after disappearing, while on bail regarding 12 count charge against him.” Malami said in a statement.

IPOB had also accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya of collaborating with Nigerian government in abducting and smuggling Kanu into Nigeria.

The Kenya High Commissioner to Nigeria, Wilfred Machage, however, dismissed such claims that Kanu was arrested in the East Africa country.

Madu wrote, “The Nigerian government led by Muhammadu Buhari to ensure the safety of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra. I urge his immediate release.

“Reports suggest that Mazi Kanu was abducted in Kenya with the active collaboration of the Kenyan government led by President Uhuru Kenyatta. If true, Nigeria and Kenya violated international law and the rule of law that is supreme in their respective countries.

“I call upon the international community, and in particular, @USin Nigeria, @UKinNigeria, @CanHCNigeria, @GERinNigeria, @lsraelin Nigeria and @EUinNigeria to use all their power, including diplomacy, to ensure the safety and release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“The Attorney General of Nigeria, Abubakar Malami is a disgrace to the rule of law, and not worthy to be an officer of the court. He has shown himself to be a bigot who does not understand what it means to live in a pluralistic society governed by the dictates of the rule of law.”
