Shops and valuables worth millions at Karimu market, in Abuja have been razed.

In a video, residents of the area could be seen salvaging whatever they could from the burnt shops.

Eyewitness account disclosed that the fire, which started around 8pm on Tuesday, raged for over two hours before men of the Fire Service arrived.

A shop owner, who cried uncontrollably, told The Nation he just stocked earlier in the day but everything was razed down.

Another shop owner, who simply identified himself as John, said all his goods were burnt.

An eyewitness, Amaka Oluchukwu, told our correspondent the inferno started from a spark in one of the shops after many shop owners had left the market.
