Gunmen reportedly invade ministry of finance in Nasarawa, cart away N100m

Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have invaded Nasarawa State Ministry of Finance, Budget and Planning in Lafia, and cartered away the sum of N100 million.

The incident occured on Thursday afternoon when the gunmen invaded the ministry, shooting sporadically.

An eyewitness, who craved anonymity said the gunmen trailed officials of the Ministry of Finance, Budget and Planning from a commercial bank in Lafia where they withdrew the cash to pay casual workers.

“But it was in the ministry’s premises the gunmen snatched the N100 million from the ministry’s officials while trying to dislodge the cash from the vehicle conveying it to the cash room,” the eyewitness narrated.

Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Planning, Haruna Ogbole, confirmed the incident.

He said investigations were on going but declined to disclose the amount snatched away.
