Tears Flow As Akwa Poly Students Stage Candle Procession For Colleagues Involved In Car Crash [PHOTOS]

As a mark of last honour and respect, the students of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua in Ikot Ekpene local government area organised and staged a candle light procession for two of their colleagues who died as a result of the car accident which involved 5 prospective corps members moving from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State to Katsina.

Recall that on Wednesday, 28th July, 2021 a bus conveying prospective NYSC members from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State to Katsina State, for orientation programme was involved in an accident which claimed lives of five of the young graduates while seven others sustained different levels of injuries.

Further investigation showed that two of the accident’s victims were graduates from the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic. Their names were Identified as Upere, Innocent Peter and Akpan, Victor Joseph; two of them being graduates of Mass Communication

The procession took place on Friday, July 30th, 2021 in the school campus and its neighboring streets.

During the procession, all the students were sighted wearing black materials to show their mournful mood. As they processed with deep melancholy, they sang some funeral hymns.

“Jerusalem my happy home when shall I come to thee? When shall my sorrow have an end to be in happy home”.

“Until I reach my home, I will never never stop my journey half way, until I reach my home”.

The students also used the opportunity of the procession to commiserate with the families of the prospective corps members who died on their way to the NYSC orientation camp in Katsina State. They also prayed for the happy repose of the souls of their departed comrades.

“May their journey to world beyond be peaceful and easy! Rest on comrades”. They prayed.
