No fewer than 32 suspected cultists, on Thursday, August 5, were arrested by the men of the Nigeria Police Force, Bayelsa State Command, in Yenagoa, the state capital.

SP Asinim Butswat, the state’s Police Public Relations, made the disclosure in a statement on Friday.

WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that residents of Yenagoa and other parts of the state have been recently plunged into fear over the activities of the suspected cultists who have clashed on several occasions.

The PPRO also revealed that an anti-cutlism squad has been set up in the state to curb the menace of the hoodlums.

He warned all members of cult groups to desist from gathering, initiations and campaigns. Stating that any activity to promote the interest of their groups irrespective of it being violent or non-violent would attract the wrath of law.

“The Squad has since commenced an aggressive crack down on cultists and violent criminals. So far, 32 cultists have been arrested and upon conclusion of investigation will be charged to court under the Bayelsa State Anti-Cultism law.

“The State Police Command is not unaware of the open and hidden involvement of prominent individuals supporting the activities of the cult groups”, he stated.
