Gunmen abduct former Cross River Local Govt chairman

A two term chairman of Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River state identified as Obol Ubi Itam Ettah has been abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the oil baron popularly known as Bomboy, was abducted by gun wielding men on Monday, August 9, at his fuel station on Ikom-Calabar highway, close to Ediba junction in Ugep.

A source disclosed that the two term local government chairman was sitting at this station when the vehicles arrived and five men came out and immediately displayed assault rifles.

According to the source, several motorcyclists were buying petrol, abandoned their bikes and took off while the men grabbed Bomboy, pushed him into the vehicle and drove to the Ediba junction, turned right and drove off with him.

A stalwart of the People’s Democratic Party, Bomboy served as council chairman from 2007 to 2013.

He was also in charge of the Ekori Paradise Toothpick Factory constructed by the Cross River State Government and later defected to the Democratic People’s Party (DPP) to contest for the seat of the Senator representing central Cross River at the National Assembly.

He later defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is said to have returned to DPP recently after the Governor, Benedict Ayade joined the ruling party.
